How can I participate?
We are recruiting in 2012 and 2013.
All we need is for your GP to refer you to us at Charing Cross Hospital or Leicester Royal Infirmary (Please see Contact Us for the list of consultants).

What will happen if I take part?
If you agree to take part, you will see one of the ENT doctors at Charing Cross Hospital, London, who will make the decision whether you are an appropriate candidate or not and a number of tests will be performed. If you are found suitable, two transtympanic injections will be administered (two weeks apart)  under local anaesthetic. It will either be injections of gentamicin or steroid. Neither you nor the investigator will know which drug is being injected - it is important to remember that both drugs are considered to be effective.

Following the injections you will need to return for appointments for audio-vestibular tests 2 weeks after the injection, then at 2, 6, 12, 18 and finally 24 months.

If the injection does not reduce vertigo, you will see our unblinded ENT consultant who will make the decision to re-inject with the same drug or switch drugs. The end goal is to reduce vertigo within the study time.
